It is a good route because you do not have to rent any vehicles. You can travel all over the region by route buses. However, the main benefit is that it will show you all the beauties of Tien Shan. You will cross forest zones, alpine meadows, cliff areas, glaciers to finally reach the slightly salty Issyk Kul (1607m above sea level).
Favorable season: June – September.

Route Difficulty: 3 days on foot.
Day 1. Departure from Almaty to the Great Almaty Lake (2 hours). Overnight stop in tents. Camp 1.
Day 2. Approach the Ozerny Pass Piedmont (2400 -2900 m, 5 hours). Overnight stop in tents. Camp 2.
Day 3. Ascend the Ozerny Pass (3507m) and descend to the Chen Kemin River Valley (2900-3507-2980m, 6 hours). Overnight stop in tents. Camp 3.
Day 4. Visit the Ak Su Gorge (2980-3320 m, 5 hours). Overnight stop in tents. Camp 4.
Day 5. Cross the Ak Su Gorge (4052m), descend to the Autor Bashy Piedmont (3060 m, 6 hours). Overnight stop in tents. Camp 5.
Day 6. Descend to the Issyk Kul Lake Valley (1607m, 8 hours).
