Silk Road was one of the most dynamic and burning centers of economic activity in the world. During centuries, trade promoted the development and roads augmenting of Central Asia and West China, connecting East and West and promoted the development of sciences, new technologies and also cultural and economic exchange.
On the 13th of June, 2008 the specific assignments on further development of Kazakhstan part of Great Silk Road were given by the Head of the state N.A. Nazarbayev at the enlarged session of social council on “Cultural heritage” program realization.
The Ministry of Tourism and Sport of the Republic of Kazakhstan with the support of the Government of the Republic of Kazakhstan within the frameworks of the United Nations Development Programme Silk Road initiative organizes the 3rd Silk Road Mayor’s Forum on the theme “New Silk Road: from inspiring tradition to modern standards for tourism and cooperation”, which will be held from the 2nd till the 4th of September, 2008 in Almaty.
The city mayors, representatives of government agencies and business community from 27 countries, scientists and heads of international organizations will participate in the Forum.
Previous Forum was held in Tashkent (Uzbekistan) in 2006 and in Lanzhou (China) in 2007.
Forum will give to Silk Road city Mayor’s the opportunity for opinions and experience exchange on development of cities in tourism, trade and investments sphere.
The result of holding this Forum will be strengthening of cooperation and integration between countries situated along the Silk Road.
